Chitin Production
A chitin plant has been designed to process online, fresh shrimp head waste materials for the production of chitin. The plant has a current capacity of 600 kg an hour producing high quality dried shrimp head powder. This is then processed into high-grade chitin and, by a further refinement, into glucosamine. Production at current capacity is 3,000 tonnes a year with sales expected in local and international markets to customers in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food additives industries.
